Mayor Charlie Hales and First Lady Nancy Hales Round Out All-Star Couples Roast Set for March 4th
The 19th Annual Roast, presented by Wells Fargo, is shaping up to be a comedic showdown in a town that is generally known for its harmonic convergence. Attended by the who’s who of Portland, this year’s event will feature three “all-star” couples and will be hosted by Zach Dundas, executive editor of Portland Monthly and former Roast winner.
City of Portland Mayor Charlie Hales and his wife, Nancy, will be joined by occupational couple Mark Mason and Dave Anderson of KPAM’s Mark & Dave show and other “real-life” couple April Baer, of Oregon Public Broadcasting, and Ryan White, writer-at-large (aka former Oregonian reporter).
“Nancy and I are not intimidated by the teams of Mark and Dave, or April and Ryan,” Mayor Hales said. “We have grace, wit and style on our side. Technically, Nancy has grace, wit and style. And I have security guards.”
Founded by Congressman Earl Blumenauer 19 years ago, the Roast is the annual fundraiser for All Hands Raised. Last year, more than 700 leaders from throughout Multnomah County packed the floor of the Moda Center, raising more than $350,000 to support the work of All Hands Raised.
The 19th annual Roast will take place on Fat Tuesday, March 4, 2014 at the Moda Center at the Rose Quarter. Tickets and tables are available for purchase by contacting Miranda M. Hansen at miranda@allhandsraised.org or 503-234-5404 x32. All proceeds benefit All Hands Raised.
The mission of All Hands Raised is to champion education, equity and excellence from cradle to career inside and outside of the classroom by mobilizing leadership, ideas, resources and community action to ensure kids throughout Portland and Multnomah County achieve their full potential. This is a community-wide effort to significantly improve educational outcomes for children and youth. All Hands Raised also continues to steward PPS parent-led fundraising and manage the PPSF Equity Fund through the nationally-acclaimed public school fundraising model: The Portland Public Schools Foundation.
