Dear Community,

We are pleased to provide you with the recently released report commissioned by The Wallace Foundation and written by researchers from Teachers College, Columbia University, “BUILDING IMPACT: A Closer Look at Local Cross-Sector Collaborations for Education.” The Wallace Foundation, based in New York City, is a national foundation dedicated to supporting and sharing effective ideas and practices that expand learning and enrichment opportunities for disadvantaged children.

In 2015 we were approached to participate and gave our wholehearted support toward their goal of better understanding local cross-sector collaborations for education and their impact. Many individuals in the greater Portland region were generous with their time to provide insights on the All Hands Raised Partnership with the research team.

As lead researcher Jessica Wolff shared, “After talking with a broad and deep cross-section of the community, it is clear the All Hands Raised Partnership is fostering cross-sector collaboration in new and innovative ways. That coupled with the explicit and consistent focus of the Partnership on racial educational equity make it stand out as a pacesetter for other education-focused collective impact initiatives.”

The content of the report reflects the persistent and focused work of partner school districts, culturally-specific organizations, education thought leaders and engaged businesses. While we still have much to accomplish, this report signals that we are on the right path—and we look forward to continuing our shared work to accelerate outcomes. As such, we invite you to peruse the report, and especially the Appendix that highlights our work here in Portland/Multnomah County. In addition, we hope a representative of The Wallace Foundation will be able to attend a future gathering in Oregon to share more about the report with this community. Look for more details on that visit in the coming weeks.

Thank you for all you continue to do to ensure the success of our kids—from cradle to career.
