Principal for Almost a Day

Thank you for attending the 20th annual Principal for Almost a Day, presented by Comcast!

Thank you to the business, civic, nonprofit and education leaders who attended our virtual Principal for Almost a Day event on October 20 and 21, 2020! We understand that your participation was a significant time commitment and we want to acknowledge the tremendous impact it can have on our community. As shared by one principal, “PFAD is a great opportunity to build relationships and solidify how important it is to work together to create authentic support for public education.” On behalf of the entire All Hands Raised staff, thank you again for raising your hand to build stronger bridges between schools and community!

We would also like to thank our Happy Hour Speakers – David A. Tashjian, Regional Vice President at Comcast, Oregon/SW Washington Region; Dr. Carladenise Armbrister Edwards, Senior Vice President and Chief Strategy Officer at the Henry Ford Health System; and Lavert Robertson, CEO here at All Hands Raised.

Principal for Almost a Day (PFAD) provides community leaders with an opportunity to experience the challenges and opportunities facing principals in our communities’ schools. Now more than ever, it is critical for all of us to develop a deeper understanding of how to support our students and our schools and to develop practices that improve educational outcomes for all children and youth in Multnomah County.

In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, schools had to quickly pivot to online learning platforms at the end of the school year, revealing gaps in internet access and lack of digital devices in many households, as well as barriers to student engagement and motivation. Teachers, principals and other school leaders heroically adapted to new technologies with little time to prepare. As this new school year begins, how can we view this shift to an online format as an opportunity for innovation – to break out of traditional approaches and collectively develop new ways of educating and engaging our students?
